Review

Once upon a time, in a picturesque village of Cheltenham in England, there lived a dreamer named Eddie. Born with polio, he was always the odd one out. He never excelled at anything until he discovered his passion for ski jumping.

Eddie had one big dream: to compete in the Olympics Games for ski jumping. But nobody believed in him–not even his parents. However, Eddie’s determination was as strong as the wings of an eagle, and he refused to let anyone crush his dreams.

In 2016, Dexter Fletcher directed and produced “Eddie the Eagle,” a biographical sports comedy-drama telling the story of Eddie Edwards or famously known as Eddie “the Eagle.” Taron Egerton brings Edwards to life with his brilliant performance.

The movie captures Edwards’s journey from being an amateur athlete to becoming an international sensation. With Hugh Jackman playing his coach Bronson Peary with panache, their on-screen chemistry is one that we cannot help but admire.

One of the most interesting facts about Eddie “The Eagle” is that he holds the British record for ski jumping and has been representing Britain at World Championships since 1982. His never-give-up attitude has won over hearts all around the world.

The movie portrays this beautifully through its screenplay by Sean Macaulay and Simon Kelton. They did justice to every character and plot point throughout the film, making sure that we experience every emotion alongside Eddie.

It’s not just another sports movie; it is much more than that. It is about pushing boundaries and overcoming obstacles by believing in oneself. One of its most memorable moments comes when Eddie says,

“The only way you’ll ever know if you can win or not is to keep fighting.”

This sentiment encapsulates everything that makes this film so inspiring.

Additionally, Timothy Spall plays Dustin Targett, who is a portrayal of an amalgamation of characters who were against Eddie’s inclusion in the Winter Olympics. Spall manages to play an unlikable character in such a way that we can’t help but love him.

In addition to the incredible performance, the movie features a fantastic score by Matthew Margeson, which adds a lot of energy and excitement to the movie. Furthermore, George Richmond’s cinematography beautifully captures the snow-covered mountains and Eddie’s flights down them.

The film is truly entertaining from start to finish, and it’s hard not to root for Eddie throughout. It is undoubtedly one of those feel-good movies that leave an impression long after you’ve watched it.

It’s fascinating to learn how much effort went into making this movie. The filmmakers put a lot of work into every detail, including filming in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany because they couldn’t find any place in Canada with proper ski jumps.

Moreover, it was incredible how Egerton underwent six months of training and learned skiing from scratch for the role. His efforts paid off as he managed to perform his own stunts during the filming.

The movie garnered two nominations at the 69th British Academy Film Awards for best supporting actor (Hugh Jackman) and best makeup and hair design.

One of the most notable things about this movie is its use of special effects—the seamless blend between real footage of skiers jumping off ramps and CGI graphics was impressive. You can tell that a lot of thought went into every aspect of this production.

There are certain scenes that break your heart while others will bring tears to your eyes or leave you with goosebumps. One particularly memorable scene shows Eddie closing his eyes just before his final jump at Calgary Olympics, feeling like he’s flying through clouds—truly magical!

Overall “Eddie The Eagle” is an emotional rollercoaster that makes us laugh and cry within minutes. It showcases how one person’s determination can inspire millions by never giving up on their dreams. Whether you’re a sports fan or not, this movie has something for everyone to enjoy.

In conclusion, “Eddie the Eagle” is a movie that leaves you with a warm feeling in your heart and the motivation to conquer your fears and chase your dreams. It is a tribute to Eddie’s true spirit and determination that will inspire generations to come.
